Painting Hierarchy or the Hierarchy of Genres are the six main types of painting:
1. History Painting
2. Portrait Painting
3. Genre Painting
4. Landscape Painting
5. Animal Painting
6. Still Life Painting
Most of the paintings falls in one or more of these categories and are defined, interpreted accordingly.
The art-work is produced by the American artist Steven Seward who was born in 1958. He is a portrait painter for last thirty years. He is fond of illustrating people with some significant incidents or a portion which reflects the person’s life. The portrayal presented here is of a girl named Emily Morris, sitting on a chair with relaxed manner. She has a doll in lap with black attire. The reflection I get according to artist’s mentality is that it reflects the little girls big ambitions as we can see her looking in distance.
