The American artist from late 19th century was one of the Hudson River school students. During his journeys to Great Plains and Rocky Mountains in 1865, he got thoroughly impressed by the lands of the Great Plains. Even more impressed than the Rocky Mountains. The reason he described in his autobiography was vastness, silence, innocence and primitive existence of the place which was remained untouched by the urban developments. That affection and the love for the open grounds are finely depicted on the canvas with oil.
