In Venice, it’s like every building is historical and each them has its own intriguing history to know about. Here, the building on the left is called Punta Della Dogana (point of customs). As the name suggests, the building was used for managing the affairs of overseas business. It looked after the ships bringing and carrying away the goods from the city. Felix’s take on portraying landscapes with cultural importance of the place again strikes here with people gathered under a tree and the glimpse of the historically known city of Istanbul in the backdrop. Maybe Felix had a tendency to depict the places with some meaning or the importance inherited within them. Because, his choice of places and furthermore, the choice of vintage point from where he depicts the place always includes the major elements of the place, all of which has their own allegories and major part in the story of the place. As if the beauty of the city had some kind of magic spread on his mind. In his series depicting Venice in many different angels and searching out the beautiful landscapes, in this particular painting, the view is a little bit afar from the main city. The Gondola (small intercity boats of Venice to travel small distances) is travelling in the outskirt of the city after which the large sea of Adriatic is spread to horizon.
