The irony of their lives is that both were sons of a composer. In his early age, he began painting. He traveled foreign countries to nurture his skills. After acquiring enough experience and doing some outstanding works, he got the first medal of national exhibition of fine arts in 1917. This genre painting named ‘Boys Fishing’ was drawn in 1902. He was an adroit painter portraying the wide-range of portraits, landscapes and genre-paintings. Here is represented a portrait of his wife Emma Zorn with a little dog named Mouche. It was a regular story of love-at-first-site in the city of Stockholm, Sweden. Emma happened to be baby-sitting Anders’ nephew while he was portraying him. That’s the point when they first met each-other and fell for. After four years’ secret relationship, they succeed to convince Emma’s parents in 1885 and married. Emma didn’t have the knowledge of cookery but her skill of organization helped Anders with his clients, exhibitors, museums and publishers. In his oeuvre, the meditating saint Francis is a major subject. He has drawn various portrait of this saintly personality. A quick glance at the current representation of Saint Francis raises a question in my mind. Why a skull is included in there? And as I thought about the question further, I had some speculations.
