Felix Ziam takes a new angel in depicting Venice’s noticeable place of Bacino de San Marco, an important port from where Venice’s most overseas business was handled. In Venice, it’s like every building is historical and each them has its own intriguing history to know about. Here, the building on the left is called Punta Della Dogana (point of customs). As the name suggests, the building was used for managing the affairs of overseas business. It looked after the ships bringing and carrying away the goods from the city. Felix Ziem’s beloved city, Venice comes again in his work, in which he developed his artistic skill and kept visiting annually for many years. As if the beauty of the city had some kind of magic spread on his mind. In his series depicting Venice in many different angels and searching out the beautiful landscapes, in this particular painting, the view is a little bit afar from the main city. This Ukiyo-e piece is the most famous Japanese painting in its type. It represents a monstrous wave ascending over the two Japanese Boats. In the background is visible the infamous Mount Fuji (known for being active volcano mountain) covered with ice. The Great Wave of Kanagawa Analysis Ukiyo-e paintings are always very minimalistic, few colored, flat and yet impressive with its distinctive style. All of those characteristics are available in this picture. Due to the cumbersome process of making a Ukiyo-e, artists try to make a simple and with low colored painting. This dramatic illustration, “The Storm on the Sea of Galilee”,  is painted by the Dutch Golden Age master Rembrandt. It is a dramatic depiction of the ‘calming the storm’ miracle done by Jesus. Jesus did many miracles in his lifetime including walking on water, cursing the fig tree, turning water into wine and many more. Those miracles and anecdotes made his apostles and followers have more faith in him.
