This Ukiyo-e piece is the most famous Japanese painting in its type. It represents a monstrous wave ascending over the two Japanese Boats. In the background is visible the infamous Mount Fuji (known for being active volcano mountain) covered with ice. The Great Wave of Kanagawa Analysis Ukiyo-e paintings are always very minimalistic, few colored, flat and yet impressive with its distinctive style. All of those characteristics are available in this picture. Due to the cumbersome process of making a Ukiyo-e, artists try to make a simple and with low colored painting. Flag is a painting made by the American soldier at the age of 24 when he got discharged from the American army around 1953. During the time he saw a dream of American flag and was inspired to make the painting out of it. To depict it, he used oil, encausitc and collage of old American newspapers.   Although called as the Number 1, the work was produced in the 1950 by the American artist, Jackson Pollock known for his drip paintings. Throughout his life, Pollock did only drip paintings like this in which he would lie the whole canvas on the ground and then with different objects, whichever he found useful, start dripping the colors on the canvas until he gets a satisfactory output on the canvas. Orange, Red, Yellow is one of the most expensive post-war painting made by an American born abstract artist Mark Rothko. It was executed in 1961. It is a Color Field painting. In 2012, it was sold for $77.5 million in Christie’s auction house. It is now Mark Rothko’s most expensive painting supressing the previous record of $72.8 million set by White Center (Yellow, Pink and Lavender on Rose) by Mark Rothko.
