Having the characteristics of impressionism, painting is a work done by the Italian painter Vincenzo Irolli born in mid-19th century. Guglielmo Zoochi was an Italian painter born in 1874. Majority of his work depended on displaying the contemporary women enjoying different kind of activities. Around 19th century, people of Istanbul used to have scribes to write or read their letters as they had very low literary knowledge. This oil-on-canvas painting shows one of those days. Artist Fausto Zonaro was born in Masi, which was in Austrian Empire, in 1854. He was very much interested in painting from the beginning and his parents decided to encourage his skill. When the plague of 1576 struck on Italy, Doge Alvise I Mocenigo decided to build a massive church if the plague diminishes totally. After plague stopped the church was built and was called as II Redentore. From that time, festival of Redentore began to give thanks for the end of the terrible plague. Italian artist Fausto Zonaro has depicted the same festival of the old times with details. The presented portion of the festival shows a person trying to sell his goods to two beautiful women.
